Today’s Bible reading is Luke chapter 18
(Read the entire New Testament in 2014 by reading only one chapter each day)
Jesus spoke a parable to His disciples to encourage them in persistent prayer. One of the keys to effective prayer is learning to wait on God. There are some people that when they pray they want immediate answers. If they don’t get them they give up, but many times the answer is just around the corner. Persistent prayer is prayer that don’t quit. We continue to believe God and to wait upon the Lord no matter what. Persistent prayer doesn’t mean that we impose our will upon God, or that we try to change God’s mind. It means that we won’t give up believing God for His answer. Persistent prayer is prayer in faith. It is believing God for something and continuing to cry out to Him in the face of adversity. God’s Word challenges us to be a people of great faith. If it is something God wants for you, and you are praying about it, and it is settled in your heart then wait upon the Lord until the answer comes. Will there be any faith like that at Christ’s return? When Jesus comes again will He find anyone still practicing believing prayer?
Prayer: “Oh Lord, we wait upon You in faith until Your answer comes. May Your will be done. In Jesus name. Amen.”
