Today’s Bible reading is Luke chapter 17

(Read the entire New Testament in 2014 by reading only one chapter each day)

Sitting at the feet of Jesus we have much to learn. As disciples of Jesus we must be diligent in many things. He teaches us to walk carefully, and warns us not live in such a way that our actions might discourage someone else or lead them into sin. We are to watch after ourselves spiritually, and be sure that we practice forgiving others. Our faith should be growing and increasing like that of a mustard seed. To grow our faith we must spend time in the Word of God and endure sufferings and hardships. We must properly view ourselves as servants of Jesus Christ without any sense of entitlement. Our duty is to thank God continuously for everything He does in our lives, and to live in a constant state of thankfulness. A state of thankfulness will lead us to experience great joy and contentment. We must look for Christ to return and always be ready to meet Him. Jesus affirmed His redemption plan. Jesus taught that He must suffer and be rejected by men, a reference to His agonizing death on the cross. God’s love is redemptive. He seeks to save us from the destruction of sin. He lovingly reminds us of Lot’s wife. Upon leaving the city of Sodom Lot and his family were instructed not to look back at the destruction. Lot’s wife disobeyed God and looked back and she turned into a pillar of salt. She is a reminder of God’s judgment. Sin will not be tolerated forever. Lot’s wife looked back because she loved what was behind her more than what God had placed before her. Our time on earth is brief. May we live in light of eternity and the return of Jesus Christ!

Prayer: “Dear Father, may we be about Your business. In Jesus name. Amen.”
