Today’s Bible reading is Luke chapter 16
(Read the entire New Testament in 2014 by reading only one chapter each day)
The Apostle John said, “Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.” (I John 2:15). The story of the Rich Man and Lazarus shows the difference between a man that loved God, and a man that loved the things of this world. The name Lazarus means “God is my help.” He didn’t have very much in this life but he certainly had a good name. The rich man had everything money could buy but he didn’t have the thing he needed most. He didn’t have God in His life. When it came time for him to die he lost everything. Lazarus didn’t have gold, or food, or health, or doctors, but he had everything because he had the Lord! Lazarus did not go to heaven because he was poor. He went to heaven because he was saved. The Rich Man didn’t go to hell because he was rich. He went to hell because he was lost. We must each be prepared for eternity. In hell the Rich Man became missionary minded, but the time to reach lost family or friends is before we die. Don’t neglect spiritual matters, or the things that God has called you to do. Give yourself to the Lord completely and do everything you can to win your family and friends to Christ.
Prayer: “Dear Jesus, thank You for Your mercy. Help us to be mindful of eternity and with Your help may we do everything possible to win our family and friends to Christ. Amen.”
