Today’s Bible reading is Ephesians chapter 5

(Read the entire New Testament in 2014 by reading only one chapter each day)

Paul charged the church, “Live as people of the the Light!” A Life with God and a life without God are as different as day and night. The life lived for God is filled with love and imitates Christ. It is a life that seeks to do what is pleasing to the Lord. Those who live this life make the most of every opportunity to serve Christ, and are committed to finding and following the will of God. To live as people of the Light we must be Spirit filled. Yield your heart fully to God so that He may fill you with His Presence. When you do your heart will be full of praise and thankfulness to God. Your conduct, since you have been saved, in comparison to how you once lived should be as different as day and night. Paul said, “Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God’s people. Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes- these are not for you.” (Ephesians 5:3-4 NLT). “You can be sure that no immoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God. For a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of the world. Don’t be fooled by those who try to excuse these sins, for the anger of God will fall on all who disobey Him… For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of the Light! For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true.” (Ephesians 5:5-9 NLT)

Prayer: “Lord, fill us with Your light and fill us with Your Spirit so that our lives may reflect the life of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In Jesus name. Amen.”

Today’s Bible reading is Romans chapter 8

(Read the entire New Testament in 2014 by reading only one chapter each day)

The keys to victory in the Christian life are found in Romans chapter 8. The Spirit-filled life is the secret to success. If we don’t have the Holy Spirit we are not saved and we do not belong to God. If we are led by God’s Spirit we are God’s sons and daughters. We receive the Holy Spirit at the new birth. The Spirit makes us alive! Through the Spirit we have victory over sin and suffering and circumstances. The Holy Spirit bears witness with our spirit that we are the children of God. The Holy Spirit living in us gives us hope that our dying, decaying body will one day be glorified. Through the Spirit we are also able to pray. He makes intercession in our behalf even when we don’t know what words to say. Without the Holy Spirit we cannot survive. God is at work in our lives even in the most challenging times. He is sovereign over our suffering and promises to use it to accomplish His purpose. We are assured that no matter what we go through God loves us. Absolutely nothing can separate us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. We are more than conquerors through Christ!

Prayer: “Dear Father, we bless You and praise You for Your everlasting love. Thank You for the work of the Spirit in our lives. In Jesus name. Amen.”

Today’s Bible reading is John chapter 7

(Read the entire New Testament in 2014 by reading only one chapter each day)

Jesus said, “If any man thirst, let him come unto Me, and drink. He that believeth on Me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.” He spoke these words with passion. His heart yearned and longed for the spiritually impoverished people to turn to Him for life and satisfaction. They were searching in all the wrong places for hope and happiness. He not only spoke these words with passion but also He spoke them prophetically. His words were a fulfillment of the scripture. Not only were His words prophetic, but also they were a promise. He was describing the Holy Spirit. God’s Spirit lives in us and gives us life! The witness of God’s Spirit flows from our lives like a river when we belong to God. This is true because God promised it to us.

Prayer: “Heavenly Father, our souls are thirsty, we come to You that we may experience Your Holy Spirit flowing like a river from our lives. In Jesus name. Amen.”
