Today’s Bible reading is Hebrews chapter 7

(Read the entire New Testament in 2014 by reading only one chapter each day)

Jesus is the Son of God and He is greater. He is greater than the angels (chapter 1). Jesus is greater than Moses (chapter 3). Jesus is greater than Abraham (chapter 7). Jesus is a great High Priest. His priesthood is greater because He is like Melchizedek. Melchizedek is a mysterious Old Testament figure mentioned during the lifetime of Abraham, and prophesied about in the Psalms. Psalms 110:4 says, “The Lord hath sworn, and will not repent, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchizedek.” This verse prophesies that Messiah will be both Priest and King. Jesus is a Heavenly Priest. He is in heaven right now making intercession for you and me. Earthly Old Testament priests died and their priesthood ended. They were replaced by their eldest son. Jesus priesthood is forever. Melchizedek is an Old Testament picture of Christ. His name means king of righteousness. He is a type of Christ the One True King, the King of Righteousness, the King of Peace. Today, we have a great High Priest ministering in heaven in our behalf, and ever making intercession for the saints! Praise God for Jesus our great High Priest!

Prayer: “Dear Father, thank You for hearing us when we pray because of our Mediator Jesus Christ. Thank You that Jesus is both King and Priest, and that He provides peace through the blood of His sacrifice. In Jesus name. Amen.”

Today’s Bible reading is Hebrews chapter 5

(Read the entire New Testament in 2014 by reading only one chapter each day)

The Old Testament priest served to represent people before God. He presented their offerings and sacrifices to God. In order to approach God the people had to go through a priest. No one could decide on their own to become a priest. The priest had to be called by God. The priest not only presented an offering for the sins of the people, but for his own sins too. Jesus came to be our High Priest. Jesus did not assume this position on His own, He was chosen by the Father. Jesus is a better High Priest because He does not need to offer sacrifices for His sin, for Jesus does not have any sin. Jesus Himself became the sacrifice for sin. He offered a Perfect sacrifice. Jesus is the One sacrifice for sin forever! Jesus is our go between, we now have access to the Father. In Christ we have become a kingdom of priests, therefore, we do not ever need to go to God through another person. We have full access through Christ to the Heavenly Father. Jesus is the Perfect High Priest and the source of eternal salvation for all who place their faith in Him.

Prayer: “Dear Father, we praise You for our Perfect High Priest the Lord Jesus Christ, we thank You for the priesthood of the believer, all glory and praise be unto You. In Jesus name. Amen.”
