Today’s Bible reading is Ephesians chapter 5

(Read the entire New Testament in 2014 by reading only one chapter each day)

Paul charged the church, “Live as people of the the Light!” A Life with God and a life without God are as different as day and night. The life lived for God is filled with love and imitates Christ. It is a life that seeks to do what is pleasing to the Lord. Those who live this life make the most of every opportunity to serve Christ, and are committed to finding and following the will of God. To live as people of the Light we must be Spirit filled. Yield your heart fully to God so that He may fill you with His Presence. When you do your heart will be full of praise and thankfulness to God. Your conduct, since you have been saved, in comparison to how you once lived should be as different as day and night. Paul said, “Let there be no sexual immorality, impurity, or greed among you. Such sins have no place among God’s people. Obscene stories, foolish talk, and coarse jokes- these are not for you.” (Ephesians 5:3-4 NLT). “You can be sure that no immoral, impure, or greedy person will inherit the Kingdom of Christ and of God. For a greedy person is an idolater, worshiping the things of the world. Don’t be fooled by those who try to excuse these sins, for the anger of God will fall on all who disobey Him… For once you were full of darkness, but now you have light from the Lord. So live as people of the Light! For this light within you produces only what is good and right and true.” (Ephesians 5:5-9 NLT)

Prayer: “Lord, fill us with Your light and fill us with Your Spirit so that our lives may reflect the life of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. In Jesus name. Amen.”

Today’s Bible reading is John chapter 8

(Read the entire New Testament in 2014 by reading only one chapter each day)

Jesus said, “I am the light of the world: he that follows me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.” By presenting Himself as the Light of the world Jesus is inviting us to come to Him. His light exposes our sin and reveals God’s Holy character. As we come into the light we are able to worship God for who He is and know Him. We no longer walk in darkness but we have light that shows us how to live. We come to know God and are transformed into His image. Not only does God invite us to come to the light, but also He sends us to carry the light. Jesus said, “I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.” We must take every opportunity to witness about the light and help carry the light of the Gospel to every nation in the world. There should be a sense of urgency upon us as we realize the door of God’s grace will soon be closed.

Prayer: AW Tozer encouraged this prayer, “Say to God, Father, I am sick of being a common Christian. I’m sick of only being halfway. I want to know You.”

Today’s Bible reading is John chapter 1

(Read the entire New Testament in 2014 by reading only one chapter each day)

The Bible is the Jesus Book! Every chapter and verse in the Bible points to Jesus Christ. The Bible is the written Word. Jesus is the living Word! How you treat your Bible is ultimately how you treat Jesus. If you are thankful for Jesus you will also be thankful for the Word of God. Here is why you can be thankful and appreciate the Word of God. The Bible declares Jesus Christ! He is God and all things were made by Him. He gives life. Not just physical life but He gives spiritual and eternal life. His life is abundant, full, victorious, and deep. Jesus gives powerful, new and abundant life. But we must come to Him and believe on Him to experience this life. We must come out of the darkness of our sin and into the light of His holiness. It is only through Jesus that we can be made right with God. Jesus is the Light from heaven and He wants to shine in your life today. Search the Scriptures and you will meet Jesus, and let the Light of God shine on your life.

Prayer: “Dear Father, we are thankful for the Word of God, and we search the Scriptures that we may know You and experience abundant life in Christ. In Jesus name. Amen.”
