Today’s Bible reading is Ephesians chapter 1

It is important for us as followers of Christ to know who we are. In Christ we have been given a new identity. You and I may not see ourselves fully as all of these things, but this is how God sees us in Christ. And this is who we are. In Christ I am a saint. A saint is not a do-gooder, a saint is a born again child of God. Being a saint speaks of our holy position in Christ. Do you view yourself as a holy, pure person before God? Not only am I a saint, but also I am a faithful follower. I may not always feel faithful, but faithful is who God saved me to be. Not only am I a saint, and a faithful follower, but also I am richly blessed. God chose me, God declared me blameless, He loves me, and predestined my adoption to be His Son through Jesus Christ. All of this was made possible because of God’s glorious grace. His grace provided redemption through Jesus blood, and forgiveness for all my sinful acts. In Christ I have been given a great inheritance. My future inheritance has been guaranteed by God’s gracious gift of the Holy Spirit given to me at the moment of my new birth. My identity in Christ reflects the goodness of God, and assures my heart that God has also given me everything I need to live up to who I am in Christ Jesus! Who I am is not who I used to be. Who I am is who God has saved me to be. I am who I am because of who He is, and because of who I am I desire to be more like Him.

Prayer: “Dear Lord, thank You for our new identity, thank You for Your great mercy and grace that You made sinners into saints, unfaithfuls into faithful followers, and spiritually bankrupted into richly blessed. Thank You. In Jesus name. Amen.”
