Today’s Bible reading is John chapter 14

Jesus has the cure for a troubled heart. He said, “Let not your heart be troubled…” Jesus spoke these words initially to His disciples and ultimately to each of us. The disciples were troubled for many reasons. First, they were troubled because they learned that Jesus was going to leave them and they could not go with Him at this time. He was going to suffer and die on the cross and be raised from the dead. Second, Jesus told them that one of the twelve disciples was going to betray Him and He left them guessing as to who it was going to be. They were also troubled because Jesus foretold that Peter would deny Him three times. The disciples all looked up to Peter and this news disturbed them. Their hearts were troubled because Jesus gave them a mission to fulfill and they felt inadequate to do the job. Christ offered them the cure. The cure is faith in Jesus. He said, “You believe in God, believe also in Me.” Jesus is God manifest in human flesh. We can believe Jesus the same way we believe God because Jesus is God! Jesus is the “I Am.” He said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.” God revealed Himself to Moses as the “I Am.” He is the unchanging, ever present God who made Himself known. Our hearts don’t have to be troubled. God has come near to us in the Person of Jesus Christ. He has made a home for us in heaven. The God of our salvation has come down and He offers us life if we will turn to Him and trust Him. Jesus is coming again and He promises to take us to be with Him forever. These truths can cure any heart.
Prayer: “Dear Father, our hearts are often troubled, may we remember these truths during times of distress, may we focus on the promises You have made and know that heaven is our future home and that You are coming again! In Jesus name. Amen.”
