Today’s Bible reading is Acts chapter 6

(Read the entire New Testament in 2014 by reading only one chapter each day)

Someone said, “The early church remained focused on sharing the Gospel and weathered every storm. As a result they flourished.” The early church was not exempt from troubles, but their problems did not distract them. They kept the “main thing” the main thing. Their objective was to keep the church focused on prayer and the Word of God. Acts 6:4 says, “But we will give ourselves continually to prayer, and to the ministry of the word.” The early church accomplished this by calling deacons. Deacons are Spirit filled men of faith who minister alongside of the pastor so that the church can remain focused on prayer and sharing the Gospel. Verse seven shows the result of the church remaining focused. Acts 6:7 says, “And the Word of God increased; and the number of the disciples multiplied in Jerusalem greatly; and a great company of the priests were obedient to the faith.”

Prayer: “Dear Father, help us to always keep a Gospel focus. May we be a people of prayer and a powerful witness. Give us someone to share Christ with today. In Jesus name. Amen.”
