Today’s Bible reading is 2 Peter chapter 2

(Read the entire New Testament in 2014 by reading only one chapter each day)

The Bible warns us that there will be false teachers. These will cleverly teach damnable heresies and thereby deny the Lord. Peddling false doctrine will bring the judgment of God. Sadly, false teachers are effective. It is fallen man’s tendency to believe a lie. Shameful teaching leads to shameful living. Those who endorse false teaching take part in leading others astray. Beware of false teachers. Speaking out against false teaching can be costly. These teachers slander the way of truth. God will not delay in rendering His judgment on those who propagate heresy. He spared not the fallen angels. He judged the ancient world with flood, but spared righteousness Noah who was a true preacher of God’s Word. Noah warned the world of God’s judgment. Noah and his family were spared because of God’s grace, and because of their obedient faith. God spared righteousness Lot even though His judgment fell upon the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah.  God rescues godly people from their trials, but He reserves punishment for the wicked.

Prayer: “Dear Father, expose false teaching and equip us with Your Word that we may be able to stand, and advance Your Kingdom through us. In Jesus name. Amen.”

Today’s Bible reading is 2 Corinthians chapter 13

(Read the entire New Testament in 2014 by reading only one chapter each day)

There was sin in the church at Corinth that needed corrected, and Paul the preacher wasn’t hesitant to address it. Wrong living is the result of wrong believing. False teachers had crept into the church at Corinth and were leading them astray. These talented teachers were winning the affection of church. Paul sensed that those who had once been loyal were now growing distant in their love. He wanted to reaffirm his ministry to them and restore their love. Paul said, “I pray to God that you do no evil.” (2 Corinthians 13:7)
He also said, “Examine yourselves, whether you be in the faith; prove your own selves.” (2 Corinthians 13:5)
Churches grow stronger when they are willing to allow God to deal with wrong beliefs and wrong behaviors.

Prayer: “Lord, guard our beliefs and give us Your truth, grow us to be more like Jesus. In Jesus name. Amen.”
